Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 170ºC (340ºF) and prepare two 20 cm (8-inch) round cake pans.
- Sift together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, spices, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and dark brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Incorporate eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Gradually add half of the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, followed by sour cream and oil, then the rest of the dry ingredients.
- Divide the batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 28-30 minutes.
- Cool the cakes in their pans for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
- Cream together the frosting ingredients until smooth and fluffy.
- Level the tops of each cake layer, spread frosting between layers and on top.
- Optionally, dust the top with cinnamon or garnish for presentation.
