Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 10-inch round cake pan by spraying it generously with cooking spray.
- Wash and slice fresh strawberries into 1/4-inch pieces, discarding any stems. Toss strawberries with melted butter and sugar, then arrange in the bottom of the prepared cake pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat sugar and eggs together using an electric mixer until pale and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Mix in the cooled melted butter and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Gradually alternate adding buttermilk and self-rising flour, stirring gently until just combined.
- Pour the batter over the arranged strawberries in the pan.
- Bake for 50-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before flipping it onto a serving plate.
