Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well, then blend in the vanilla.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 22-25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. While the bars cool, prepare the glaze by melting butter, then whisking in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla until smooth.
  7. Once the bars have cooled, pour the glaze over the top and allow to set.
  8. Slice into rectangles and serve with coffee or tea.
