  • 1/2 cup Uncooked Rice brown rice for an earthy twist
  • 1 cup Tomato Sauce low-sodium varieties work great
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano can substitute with thyme or Italian seasoning
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
For the Phyllo Crust
  • 1 package Phyllo Dough keep unused sheets moist
  • 1/2 cup Oil or Melted Butter for brushing between layers

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a baking dish with oil or melted butter.
  2. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until soft and fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook for around 8-10 minutes until it is well-browned.
  4. Stir in the uncooked rice, tomato sauce, oregano, salt, and pepper. Allow to simmer for about 10 minutes.
  5. Unroll the phyllo dough and cover with a damp towel. Brush a few sheets with oil or melted butter and stack them in layers in the baking dish.
  6. Spread the filling evenly over the phyllo dough in the baking dish.
  7. Cover the filling with another five layers of phyllo, brushing each layer with oil or melted butter.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  9. Allow the Kreatopita to rest for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving warm.
